About

¡Hola!  I am Christina Mascarenas.

I created this WordPress to serve as my media portfolio so I can keep all of my media info in once place.

This is where I am supposed to tell you who I am, but I am still trying to figure that out.

When I grew up I wanted to be a professional photographer and  I was for over 10 years. I earned a Bachelor’s of Mass Communications and wanted to be a photojournalist and use my images to tell peoples stories and win a Pulitzer Prize, etc.  After graduation there weren’t any newspaper jobs in the area so I took my photography skills and figured out how to create a photography business.

After 10 years of owning a business I was ready to move on.  I thought it would be cool to work on a college campus serving students so I went back to college and earned a Master’s of Leadership, specializing in Student Affairs in Higher Education.  In higher ed. there are acronyms for everything so of course we call the degree SAHE.  I worked with students for over four years but I wanted to concentrate more on the communications, event planning and academic planning site of higher education vs advising students so I decided to follow my passion back into communications.

After searching communications programs for a few months, I was referred to the Washington State University’s global program in Strategic Communications.  This is my first semester and I really like it. I am currently enrolled in the Crisis Communications and Multimedia content creation class.

I am not sure which direction this degree will take me, but my hope to be able to work in the Public Affairs and Communications world serving others.  I have interned with the City of Colorado Springs and the American Red Cross as a Communications Intern and I love how these organizations are serving the community in their own ways.
